Patricia Beach enjoy a quiet day taking in the sun, taking a dip, or enjoy a quiet day
taking in the sun on one of the prettiest stretches
of beach you will find anywhere in the
world. Patricia Beach is also known for its large natural marsh area, home to an
amazing variety of waterfowl and wildlife species native to Manitoba.
A short
drive north of Patricia Beach you will arrive in Manitoba's most famous strip of
sand. Grand Beach. This breath taking beach has drawn tourists from around
North America since the 1920's and features miles of of white silica sand, backed by dunes
as high as eight meters.
Near
Grand Beach you will find the resort town of Grand Marais, which can trace its name back
to 1783 when LaVerendrye marked the area on his map with the words "grand
marais" or "big marsh" in English.
Today,
the town's population swells during the summer as tourist and cottagers alike stream to
the area to enjoy the many resort and entertainment opportunities it offers. You
will easily fall in love with this beautiful vacation area.
Lockport
& East Selkirk
A few
kilometers north of Winnipeg you will find the historic locks of Lockport that are used
to bypass rapids and provide boat access to and from Lake Winnipeg.
The area is well known for its abundance of record size channel cat
fish.
People
travel hundreds of miles to have the opportunity to hook into a record size cat fish on
the Red River. Excellent walleye and bass fishing can also be found along the Red
River throughout the summer and winter months.
In East
Selkirk you can visit the historic Colville Landing, once a major steamboat port in the
late 19th century, and St. Peters Dynevor Church, the burial site of Chief Peguis, an
important figure in Manitoba history. The Church is located five kilometers north of
East Selkirk.
While
in Lockport take the time to visit the Kenosewun Museum which features native artifacts
that date back 3,000 years.
